WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND

Id like to thank everyone who made this weekend possible: Emily & Sam, Seth & Heather, Zeph, Therese, Kathleen, and DAVEY who provided this DVD after a very memorable day in the park...

You Must Learn

Because I did not have MTV as a child I missed the amazing visuals and fabulous narrative of this classic from KRS-1. My favorite part is when the ten commandments tablets become two vinyl records. Watch it again for the very first time.

SUCKER

I guess I loose completely. Still not official in my book, but Dam Funk is one of the ILLEST DJs running today. He is single handedly making the West Coast understand Black Music and making the East Coast very very scared. I got words that he may have rolled through NY and please please may suckers only have been in attendance because if I missed that for some reason...

CRAIGSLIST FUN

I love how people help each other out and respond to CL ads with follow up posts. On some of those feeds you need a scorecard just to keep up. I think my fav responses are to cheap-o requests - the voice taking umbrage is usually mega pissed.

This one was too charming though:

going to start filming a childrens show. need someone street smart yet kid friendly to write rap songs and perform them. You will be half the creative team and will get credit as such. If the show takes off... so do you.
looking to put it on public access and see where it goes.
please contact me for further information.
thank you.

I think you might want to check your spelling...I think you want a "rapper"...a raper is someone who forces another person to have sex with them...not great for a kids show...

TV CHILL PILL, DUDE

One of my first cassette tapes was Genesis - Invisible Touch. Their stuff still makes me stop and feel some chills.

Sting and the Police weren't bad in their day but now I guess they're best left to fake TV stars.

You decide.

NEW ORDER (proto)

In elementary school we used Texas Instrument's T.I. LOGO software - but not like these blokes. Anybody remember "RT 45" or the "SPRITES"?
I'm not joking.

COMMUNICATION

Apple vs. PC, Diesel, speaking on a personal level, VOIP, HDTV, Public Access, Baby Bell, nuclear radio, iPhones, GPS, speaking on a public level, satellite, Al Jezeera, PBS, Faxes and Pagers.

BORING!

I'm straight up TELETYPE.

I love these things for their violent style of speaking.

Check out this monster in action, "Hello, do you hear me?!?!" (00:38)

...or this loud mouth?

imagine this blowhard at a cocktail party?

SHE FUNK

Photobucket
Wish I was chilling at this party - for real...

Get the scoop on the vamps of volume vunk vock - SHE FUNK is devoted to The Brides of Funkenstein and Parlet. Thanks to Lani for the tip. I'm surprised I never found this.

My fav Brides LP - Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy

Never's title track is the kind of Brides jamn that stays in your head for days and Parlet could do no wrong in my book. These women brought some HEAT of their own in their phase of greatness. iTunes that mess.

ISAAC HAYES IS AWESOME

I forgot - thanks Sasha!

News to me but I guess ?uestlove from the Roots is producing Al Green's next album - for real! Green's work over recent years has been spot on I think. This should be some kind of a record.

Almost like a battle where SMOOTH meets DRUMS

DESERT LIFE / ALIEN FIELD

I feel in love with the desert and I guess and I have an affinity for kids media projects so this is a no brainer. Plus Ken Field is on the air (88.1) and plays mad music as seen below in the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble.

Photobucket

He just finished a teaching project in New Mexico - He worked with 3rd & 5th graders to make a short animated film/soundtrack about Roswell and may be up for an award.

FUN!
I like the way the kids Foley in their voices in the bird sanctuary.

ONE-NESS

I heard an amazing tune last night by SHAMEK FARRAH called First Impressions
